Geometry

Curved surfaces framed with triangular lattices make the most efficient structures.

The triangle is the strongest geometric shape, and the most fundamental to structural framing. Individual triangles are joined into a lattice, and a lattice of triangles can be curved to form a dome, a hypar, or beautiful free-form surfaces. The resulting structures are strong, stiff, stable and very efficient.

DOMES

Doubly curved domes (erected on a circular foundation) can span long distances. Their curvature transfers stresses efficiently with little to no bending moments, making them far stiffer than conventional flat surfaces.

Geometrica variations on the dome theme -- varying radii, varying curvatures -- give designers unprecedented flexibility.

3D Lattices and Vaults

For surfaces with zero or only one direction of curvature, a deeper Geometrica 3-D lattice provides strength and rigidity, distributing loads evenly and efficiently with much less weight than a conventional two-dimensional frame. Shapes include flat space frames and single curvature vaults.

Variety of Pattern

Framing pattern has an impact on a structure’s efficiency and esthetics. With Geometrica, your dome may be framed in a number of different patterns. Some examples include:

Structural Layers

Depending on the span and loading, Geometrica structures may be designed as a single-layer grid shell, a thin Vierendeel grid, a full double layer with diagonals between the layers or combinations of these, such as rib-reinforced single layer vaults.
